# Manchester United: Jonathan David transfer link has many Red Devils supporters hoping they sign Gent striker

**According to a report from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8043219/Manchester-United-monitoring-Gent-forward-Jonathan-David.html), Manchester United scouts have been monitoring Gent striker Jonathan David – with the 22-goal hitman attracting many plaudits whilst also winning Canada’s Player of the Year, leading one supporter to call him ‘the Canadian Rashford’.**

David, who has scored 18 goals for Gent in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League this season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdaten/spieler/533738)), currently sits as the division’s [top scorer](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8043219/Manchester-United-monitoring-Gent-forward-Jonathan-David.html) – with the 20-year-old’s accolades since turning the heads of Red Devils scouts who are now keeping tabs on the youngster. Nicknamed ‘[Iceman](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8043219/Manchester-United-monitoring-Gent-forward-Jonathan-David.html)‘ and [valued at £18m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8043219/Manchester-United-monitoring-Gent-forward-Jonathan-David.html) by his club, David is seen as a hot young talent, especially considering his recent run of nine goals in just six Belgian league games.

Since Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Inter Milan [last summer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49146040), United have been without a natural centre-forward – mainly relying on the goalscoring exploits of Marcus Rashford before his [injury](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/marcus-rashford-injury-worse-first-21532695). Despite bringing in Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua as a potential temporary fix, the Red Devils could be monitoring David as a more permanent solution to their striker conundrum.

As a result, many Man United fans have swooned over the ‘[quality player](https://twitter.com/dre_manutd/status/1232378577406042112?s=21)‘ on social media – with one fan even suggesting he could become the next ‘[Saha or Yorke](https://twitter.com/iam_marquiz/status/1232375504377991171?s=21)‘.
