# Manchester United: Dean Jones reacts to Josip Juranovic links

**[Transfer insider](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) Dean Jones believes there is reason to take [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) links to Celtic defender Josip Juranovic ‘seriously’.**

### The lowdown: Red Devils

The Red Devils and Chelsea were [credited with an interest](https://www.90min.com/posts/chelsea-considering-move-for-celtic-josip-juranovic-) in Juranovic this week as both Premier League big hitters attempt to add adequate strength in depth to their ranks.

The 26-year-old Croatia international only [arrived](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12386736/josip-juranovic-celtic-confirm-signing-of-croatia-right-back-on-a-five-year-deal) in Glasgow 12 months ago and played a pivotal role in the side that [lifted](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josip-juranovic/erfolge/spieler/362977) the Scottish Premiership title last term, directly [contributing to four goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josip-juranovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/362977/plus/0?saison=2021) in 26 league outings.

Having previously been [linked](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/josip-juranovic-addresses-atletico-madrid-24487992) to Atletico Madrid this summer, Juranovic remains in situ at Celtic, however, one well-informed onlooker has suggested a move to Old Trafford could be a possibility…

### The latest: ‘Take that rumour seriously…’

Speaking to [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/88046323-man-utd-steve-mcclaren-recommends-15m-star-to-ten-hag-at-old-trafford), Jones – a journalist for [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/dean-jones_aut2710/author.shtml) – claimed that newly appointed assistant manager Steve McClaren is pushing the interest in the [20-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josip-juranovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/362977/verein_id/3556) ace.

He said: “Interestingly, I’m told that he’s (McClaren) playing a part in this guy.

“He’s recommended him and it feels like he’s a player that would fit in well, so I do think there’s reason to take that rumour seriously.”

### The verdict: Why not…

With speculation continuing to [link Aaron Wan-Bissaka](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/crystal-palace-news/crystal-palace-aaron-wan-bissaka-transfer-gossip-news-updates/) with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, [question marks](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10303895/Man-United-legend-Neville-says-Diogo-Dalot-Alex-Telles-EXPOSED-Rangnick.html) surrounding Diogo Dalot and the [loan exit](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/transfer-news-man-utd-defender-alex-telles-joins-sevilla-on-loan) of Alex Telles, adding reinforcements at full-back could be pivotal before the September 1 deadline.

[Capable](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josip-juranovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/362977) of playing as a conventional right-back, centre-back, left-back and in midfield areas, signing a player of Juranovic’s supreme versatility would be a brilliant addition to the United ranks.

Available for a mooted £15million according to [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/chelsea-considering-move-for-celtic-josip-juranovic-), beating competition from domestic rivals and landing the Croatian – who was dubbed a [‘beautiful footballer’](https://twitter.com/buntingfootball/status/1497923217373155328?s=21&t=aHfIeqSoWe8mhiTHenxa_Q) by football journalist Josh Bunting – would be somewhat of a low-key but no less impressive capture.
