# Manchester United: Red Devils interested in Leandro Trossard

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard, according to reports in Belgium (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/man-united-interested-in-pl-attacker-player-has-left-door-open-for-move-this-summer/)).**

### The lowdown: A new dawn

Following the [official appointment](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/erik-ten-hag-appointed-as-man-utd-manager-official-statement) of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, United have been linked with a plethora of players in the ensuing weeks.

Most notable are the [links](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-de-jong-transfer-23951426) with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, however, the Dutch manager is expected to take a close look at every department of the squad.

In order to bolster the attack, the 52-year-old could be about to make a surprise attempt to prize a bring a rather under-the-radar Premier League star to Manchester…

### The latest: United ‘interested’

As per a late-night report from [Voetbalkrant](https://www.voetbalkrant.com/nieuws/2022-06-08/leandro-trossard-van-brighton-en-hove-albion-staat-in-de-belangstelling-van-manchester-united-en-newcastle-united), translated by [SW](https://sportwitness.co.uk/man-united-interested-in-pl-attacker-player-has-left-door-open-for-move-this-summer/), the Red Devils are believed to be keen on the 27-year-old attacker.

It’s claimed that Ten Hag is ‘interested’ in signing Trossard – who was described as an [‘underrated player’](https://twitter.com/journ9ale/status/1534633100751343616) by journalist Alessandro Schiavone this week in the wake of a brace against Poland in what was a stunning 8.4/10 rated display with a 100 per cent pass success rate ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/leandro-trossard/135666)).

The report makes no mention of a fee but having been signed for £15million ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11741/11749350/brighton-complete-leandro-trossard-signing-from-genk)), Brighton would likely demand a profit on their ace despite the Belgian international’s admission of a [desire](https://sportwitness.co.uk/will-see-brighton-star-potential-summer-move-ambitious-still-content-seagulls/) to take the ‘next step’ in his career.

### The verdict: Worth the gamble

Capped on [17 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leandro-trossard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/144028/verein_id/3382) by Belgium at the senior level, Trossard certainly appears to be entering the peak of his career right now.

Last season, the supremely versatile forward [scored eight times and provided three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leandro-trossard/leistungsdaten/spieler/144028) in 32 Premier League outings for a side that struggled to score for the most part. He was also man of the match, per [Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1549896/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022-Brighton-Manchester-United), destroying his new suitors in the Seagulls’ 4-0 thumping of Ralf Rangnick’s United.

Capable of [operating](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leandro-trossard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/144028) as a centre-forward, number ten and on either wing, adding the former Genk man would be a smart move from Ten Hag, particularly following the departure of Juan Mata, who was equally useful at carrying out numerous roles.

Heading towards the final [12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leandro-trossard/profil/spieler/144028) of a deal on the south coast and sharing stylistic similarities with Jonathan Ikone, Said Benrahma and United’s own Jadon Sancho ([Fbref](https://fbref.com/en/players/38ceb24a/Leandro-Trossard)), making a genuine move the diminutive forward would be an affordable and worthwhile venture.
