# Manchester United: Marcel Sabitzer out vs Real Betis

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has been ruled out of the Europa League first leg with Real Betis through injury.**

### The Lowdown: Old Trafford start

Sabitzer made a loan move to Old Trafford on deadline day from Bayern Munich after an [injury update](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11696415/Man-United-dealt-injury-blow-Christian-Eriksen-ruled-THREE-MONTHS-ankle-injury.html) emerged on Christian Eriksen.

Since then, the 28-year-old has made [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcel-sabitzer/leistungsdaten/spieler/106987) appearances for the club, one of which came in the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) last time out.

[Erik ten Hag](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/erik-ten-hag/) will be looking for an immediate response from his side this evening, however, unfortunately, he will be without Sabitzer.

### The Latest: Injury news

Ten Hag [confirmed](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/erik-ten-hag-reveals-team-news-for-man-united-v-real-betis-9-march?utm_campaign=ManUtd&utm_medium=post&utm_source=twitter) in his pre-match press conference that Sabitzer won’t be available for selection.

The United boss didn’t go into detail but described the news as a ‘disappointment’.

### The Verdict: Not ideal

Ten Hag could do with having as many options available as possible, including Sabitzer, who has made [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcel-sabitzer/leistungsdaten/spieler/106987) starts for the club since arriving.

He has been [hailed](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/marcel-sabitzer-joins-bayern-munich-rb-leipzig-transfer) as having a ‘great mentality’ by Bayern board member Hasan Salihamidzic so would’ve been a good option to have in the squad, even if that meant coming in from the bench as he has outperformed Eriksen, Fred and Scott McTominay, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/32/Show/England-Manchester-United).

However, Ten Hag will have to make do without the Austria international, who even has Champions League [experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcel-sabitzer/leistungsdaten/spieler/106987) under his belt in recent months, but hopefully, his absence won’t be long-term with the return leg in Spain pencilled in for next Thursday.
