# Manchester United: Red Devils ready to make Memphis Depay offer

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are reportedly ready to make an offer for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.**

### The Lowdown: Antony links

The Red Devils look set to be in for a busy end to the window after making midfielder Casemiro their [fourth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/transfers/verein/985) signing of the summer.

Ajax winger Antony is of course rumoured to be the club’s next priority target, with United already having an [€80m offer rejected](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12680034/transfer-update-man-utd-still-in-pursuit-of-antony-and-cody-gakpo).

United officials remain in talks and are [willing](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12680034/transfer-update-man-utd-still-in-pursuit-of-antony-and-cody-gakpo) to make an improved bid for the Brazilian, and it looks as if former forward Depay, who has a whopping [€400 million release clause (£337m)](https://as.com/futbol/2021/06/26/primera/1624677906_793085.html) in his Camp Nou contract, is also of interest.

### The Latest: United links

[Sports Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/claim-manchester-united-willing-to-bid-e10m-for-former-player-club-keen-to-get-rid-of-him/) relayed an update from [Marca](https://www.marca.com/) regarding United and Depay, who has transitioned into a central role since leaving Manchester.

They claim that Erik ten Hag’s side are ‘willing to bid’ for the Dutch forward, with a €10m figure mooted.

The report adds that Barcelona are working to move Depay on in a bid to lower their wage bill, hence the massive gap between price tag and release clause.

### The Verdict: A gamble…

Depay has netted [188](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167850) senior goals for club and country throughout his career, but he struggled during his previous stint at Old Trafford.

United paid PSV just over [£30m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/transfers/verein/985) for the forward back in 2015, however, Depay scored just [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167850) times in [53](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167850) appearances in England.

He has impressed since leaving United with Lyon and Barcelona, but it could still be a gamble to bring the 28-year-old back to the club. Desperate times may call for desperate measures, though, so this could be one to keep a close eye on over the coming days.
