Manchester United are keeping tabs on Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi ahead of a potential move.

The Lowdown: Frattesi profiled

The 23-year-old is primarily a central midfielder who can also line out in an attacking midfield role if needed. The Italy international is sponsored by Nike and currently holds a career-high €22m (£19.2m) Transfermarkt valuation.

He has been labelled a "super talented" player by Fabrizio Romano and has made 55 appearances for his current employers.

The Latest: Man United interested in Frattesi

Sport Witness relayed an update from Il Resto del Carlino regarding Frattesi on Thursday. They claimed that United, Tottenham and Brighton have all had scouts monitoring the midfielder, with the Red Devils the first to have watched Frattesi live.

The report adds that Sassuolo ‘would negotiate his sale for €30m’, which is around £26m.

The Verdict: Is he needed?

Erik ten Hag made two marquee midfield additions over the summer in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, although another could be of use at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have two options each in defensive midfield, central midfield and attacking midfield, so Frattesi would make it three options in two of those specific positions.

He appears to be at the peak of his powers given his current market value, and at £26m, United officials may view this as an opportunity to pounce in 2023 ahead of a busy second half to the season.
