Ex-Sheffield Wednesday star Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that Declan Rice could be the perfect midfield partner for Paul Pogba at Manchester United.

Recent reports, including one from the Manchester Evening News, claim United are interested in signing Declan Rice as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

It was only in January, however, when West Ham boss David Moyes claimed it would take "Bank of England" money to convince the east London club to part ways with their England international, meaning any potential deal is likely to be a complicated one.

For Palmer, though, it could be a significant one for the Red Devils, with the former Premier League midfielder believing that the acquisition of Rice could help Pogba to thrive at Old Trafford.

On the speculation surrounding Manchester United and Rice, Palmer said:

"The boy Declan Rice, I like him a lot. I like the way he plays a lot. I think he could be a perfect foil for Pogba. They're certainly not going to sell Pogba, so forget anything you read in the paper."

Transfermarkt currently value Rice at £54m, which, based on Moyes' words, is unlikely to be a figure that West Ham settle for.
