Manchester United would have reportedly called the agent of Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati ahead of a potential move to the Premier League.

The Lowdown: Qatari takeover at Old Trafford?

The Red Devils could well be set for a busy summer off the pitch, with a group of Qatari investors interested in taking control at Old Trafford. Reports have claimed that they are set to make a bid in the coming days and want 'things done quickly' to provide Erik ten Hag with a huge transfer kitty.

Fabrizio Romano has recently said that a move to Manchester for Fati could be ‘one to watch’, as United had the versatile forward on their list two years ago, and it looks as if a call has already been made to the player's representative Jorge Mendes.

The Latest: Enquiry made for Fati

According to one Spanish outlet, Manchester United and their Premier League rivals Arsenal would have called Mendes to ‘ask about the player's situation’.

However, the report claims that Fati wants to remain at the Nou Camp, with the 20-year-old’s release clause standing at a whopping €1bn (£886m).

The Verdict: Centre-forward needed

Labelled by Barcelona team-mate Eric Garcia as a player born with 'talent' and 'magic', Fati has made the majority of his appearances as a left winger, a position where Marcus Rashford has been excelling under Ten Hag in recent months.

Also, he doesn’t seem keen to leave the Catalan giants at this moment in time, so United could be chasing a lost cause ahead of the summer.

Therefore, the club could be better off looking elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, potentially bringing in a centre-forward.

Of their two current senior options in that role, Anthony Martial has suffered various injury setbacks, while loanee Wout Weghorst is struggling to make a real impact in Manchester, scoring just once in seven appearances.
