Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has posted a throwback photo of Wayne Rooney and himself on Instagram.
Speaking to BT Sport earlier this season, the 22-year-old revealed that Rooney is his favourite United player of all time.
He told Jake Humphrey and Rio Ferdinand: “I’d probably say Wazza – he has obviously been a massive part of my development and it was just a dream come true to play with him on the pitch after watching him for so many years.”
Rashford shared an image of the two players wearing the famous Red Devils kit via his official account. He captioned the picture “just because…” and tagged the club legend in the post followed by a simple heart and goat emoji.
This will undoubtedly go down well with lots of Old Trafford fans and many have already flooded the comments section with their memories of the club legend. Rooney himself clearly loved the post as he commented with a fist bump and red circle emoji, paying homage to his old club.
The attacking duo played 37 games together for club and country, combining for two goals, with the veteran providing the assist for the youngster’s match-winning strike against Hull City back in 2016.
Rashford is the club’s top scorer this season with 14 goals in the Premier League, taking 3.4 shots per game, averaging at least one key pass, and completing two dribbles per match on average (via WhoScored).
Although he still has quite some way to go before he catches up to the 34-year-old’s impressive statistics, he is certainly on the right track so far.
