Manchester United have been dealt a potential blow to their hopes of securing a transfer deal for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The Lowdown: Man United’s interest in Tielemans
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the midfielder in the past, most recently during the summer transfer window.
With Tielemans’ current contract at Leicester set to expire at the end of the season, this will allow him to leave the club as a free agent.
However, should United still have an interest in signing him, it appears as though their chances of doing so may have taken a hit.
The Latest: Leicester confident on new Tielemans deal
According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Leicester believe that they can reach an agreement with the Belgian to sign a new deal at the King Power Stadium.
The report adds that a new deal has been on the table for Tielemans for nearly two years, and although he has yet to sign it, the Foxes hierarchy have maintained close contact with his representatives throughout and are confident that he will put pen to paper on a new deal.
The Verdict: Blow for United
This highlights how impressive he is both on and off the ball and why potentially securing him as a free agent in the summer would be a big coup for United.
However, should the midfielder – who will be in action for Belgium during the World Cup in Qatar – sign a new deal at Leicester, this would diminish any chance that the Red Devils had of signing him for free in the summer.
