Manchester United: Double Chelsea swoop mooted

Manchester United: Double Chelsea swoop mooted -Manchester United News

Manchester United are interested in Chelsea duo Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, separate journalists have told GiveMeSport.

The lowdown

The Athletic’s Andy Mitten reported earlier this week that United are exploring a potential loan move for Pulisic.

Chelsea are understood to be open to letting the 23-year-old American leave on a temporary basis.

Meanwhile, Samuel Luckhurst of The Manchester Evening News claimed that Erik ten Hag wants a reunion with Ziyech, a player with whom he worked at Ajax.

However, the United hierarchy have apparently shown resistance to that particular transfer up to this point.

Conversely, they they committed £67.6million to try to bring Antony from Amsterdam to Manchester and also sanctioned a £56.7million deal for De Godenzonen’s Lisandro Martinez.

The latest

Transfer insider Dean Jones says that Pulisic is ‘interested’ in making the move to Old Trafford and urged United to pursue the deal.

“If he’s open to this and Chelsea are willing to let him go, I think it’s one you have to explore. He is interested in it, so that’s a good start.”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reports that Ten Hag remains a huge admirer of Ziyech, but says that United are not currently in talks over a potential transfer.

“Yes, Ziyech is a player who is super-appreciated by Erik ten Hag, but at the moment, there are no negotiations taking place between United and Chelsea. It is not something that is ongoing right now.”

The verdict

Pulisic, who seems more likely to join right now given that key figures at United aren’t too keen on Ziyech, would be a blockbuster addition.

He’s won the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the 21/22 season?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is among those to have offered an endorsement, having overseen Pulisic at Borussia Dortmund.

The German called him a ‘fantastic player‘ in 2018 and CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs named him as an ‘admirer‘ earlier this summer, suggesting he was interested in bringing him to Anfield.
