Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is now ‘pushing’ to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The Lowdown: Attracting interest

The Dutchman has recently been out in Qatar representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, but that hasn’t stopped his domestic future from being the centre of discussion, with the flying full-back heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old still has three years remaining on his contract, but after an impressive start to the season both in Serie A and in Qatar, is on the radar of the Red Devils heading into the January window.

The Latest: Ten Hag pursuing Dumfries

Taking to Twitter, Plettenberg revealed that United are looking at several right-back candidates, but named Dumfries as the player that Ten Hag is personally pursuing.

“Malo Gusto: The 19 y/o is very highly rated at MUFC and one of several top transfer targets as a right back. Frimpong is still in. Ten Hag is pushing for Dumfries. Gusto would be a big solution in summer 23. Bosses estimate a price tag of around €30-40m.”

The Verdict: Get it done…

Dumfries has been hailed a ‘monster’ by writer Alan Rzepa, and he would be a fantastic addition down that right-hand flank looking at his numbers.

The Rotterdam native already has two goals and the same number of assists to his name across all competitions this season, and is currently averaging 1.3 shots per league game (WhoScored).

Dumfries would create excellent competition for Diogo Dalot should he make the switch to the top flight, and if the price is right, United should get this deal over the line in the New Year.
