Sky Sports have provided a further update on Manchester United’s proposed move for Adrien Rabiot, with Erik ten Hag apparently fully on board with a potential deal.

The Lowdown: Midfield hunt

The Red Devils began the new season without making a new holding or central midfield signing, despite agreeing on a fee with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong.

Attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen got the nod in a more advanced role, but it was Fred and Scott McTominay who were once again in front of the back four.

Brighton ran out 2-1 winners at Old Trafford, which appears to have sparked United into life in the transfer market, with a move for another midfielder in Rabiot firmly on the cards.

The Latest: Sky Sports update

Sky Sports have been keeping fans up to date regarding United’s move for Rabiot, sharing the initial fee agreement live on air on Monday.

They have now provided further details with a transfer appearing to gather pace. Sky Sports said on Tuesday that a deal is worth an initial £15m plus add-ons and is progressing well, with personal terms needing to be finalised.

They’ve ‘been told’ that Ten Hag is ‘very keen’ on Rabiot and that there is ‘full alignment’ between the manager and the recruitment team.

The Verdict: Needed

Described as ‘incredible’ by Gianluigi Buffon, Rabiot should bring a much-needed winning mentality to Manchester. He’s won a whopping 24 major honours for club and country, including the World Cup back in 2018.

The Frenchman has plenty of experience at the highest level and is in his prime at 27 years of age, so you’d like to think he’ll be key under Ten Hag as he looks to transform the club over the coming years.

There does seem to be a sense of panic in a move for Rabiot following the worst possible start on the weekend, but hopefully, it’ll turn out to be a shrewd signing.
