Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Lowdown: Fee agreed

The Red Devils have identified the 27-year-old as their next target after signing three players for Erik ten Hag this summer. Sky Sports claimed last week that an initial £15m fee has been agreed between United and Juventus, with Ten Hag ‘very keen’ on the French midfielder.

There is reportedly ‘full alignment’ between the manager and the recruitment team when it comes to transfers, with personal terms still needing to sorted before Rabiot is a United player.

The Latest: Romano’s update

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Monday, Romano said that contacts are ‘ongoing’ over personal terms and that United are still ‘working’ to get a deal finalised.

The Italian stated:

“It’s the same today, on Monday. In order to reach an agreement on personal terms, there are contacts ongoing, as there were on Sunday, same today, so they are working on it to get it done.”

The Verdict: Time is ticking

It is now over a week since news of an initial agreement with Juventus for Rabiot emerged, but personal terms still aren’t agreed upon, something that United fans would’ve heard before this summer when it comes to Frenkie de Jong.

Time is ticking until the transfer deadline and it looks as if the club need to bring in a number of new faces before September 1 after a woeful start to the season, so they really need to get a move on for the Frenchman.

Andrea Pirlo once dubbed Rabiot - who has won 24 trophies in his career - a 'champion', and that winning mentality is something which is needed at Old Trafford, so hopefully he’ll be signed in time to feature against Liverpool next Monday.
