Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is in talks with Nottingham Forest over a summer loan move, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Henderson out of favour

There was hope at one point that Henderson would replace David De Gea as United's first-choice 'keeper, with the latter struggling to hit top form back in 2020/21.

The Spaniard roared back last season, however, standing out as one of his side's best players, limiting his teammate between the sticks to just three starts, in all competitions.

It now looks as though Henderson will move on this summer and a key update has emerged, in that respect.

The Latest: Forest move close

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Romano claimed that talks are ongoing and that a loan move could be completed in the near future:

"Dean Henderson deal update. Talks in progress also today between Man United and Nottingham Forest, no agreement yet on buy option clause value so it could be removed.

"Deal could be completed on simple loan. Work in progress."

The Verdict: Makes perfect sense

At 25, Henderson is now at a point in his career where he needs to be starting regular matches - he is too good a goalkeeper to be warming the substitutes' bench every week.

That will be the case at United currently, so a summer exit makes perfect sense and Forest look absolutely ideal, following their promotion to the Premier League.

Their current stopper, Brice Samba, looks likely to move on after failing to agree a new deal, which would pave the way for Henderson to be their No.1 next season. A permanent move further down the line could then be ideal for all parties, should he impress at the City Ground.
