Flocking to Twitter, a number of Manchester United fans have fumed over an update involving Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils have started the season in solid but imperfect fashion, sitting in the Premier League top four and right in amongst their strongest rivals for the title.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be disappointed to have dropped points at home to Aston Villa and Everton in their last two league matches, and the festive calendar could prove crucial in the race for a coveted top-flight crown.

United are aiming to win their first league title in 10 years and there is reason for optimism following a very fruitful transfer window, signing the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo. They've also been tipped to tie down some of their mainstays with fresh terms, with news emerging of their intention to do so with centre-back Maguire.

Indeed, according to The Mirror's Tom Hopkinson, United are preparing for new deal talks with the 28-year-old and it is said he could become one of the club's highest earners as a result. This is despite the fact that his current £190,000-a-week deal still has four years left to run, expiring in 2025 with the option for a further year (Transfermarkt).

Given the length left on his contract, and the fact that United still need to agree new terms for the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, some Red Devils fans have been left stunned by this update. One fan even dubbed it a "shambles", with Maguire culpable of some glaring defensive errors during his time at Old Trafford.
