Manchester United have reportedly made an offer to sign Real Madrid star Federico Valverde.

The Lowdown: Valverde profiled

Valverde is 24 years of age and is primarily a central midfielder who can also play as a right midfielder or a right-winger.

The Uruguay international has made 180 appearances at the Bernabeu and has mainly been used on the right by Carlo Ancelotti during the current campaign.

He has contributed to 13 of his 27 Madrid goals during the 2022/23 season, and it looks as if he is now of real interest to those at Old Trafford.

The Latest: Bid made

Spanish outlet El Nacional shared a story in the last 48 hours regarding Valverde, claiming that Erik ten Hag has asked United to try their luck with a move for the midfielder.

The report suggests that the Red Devils have actually even made a proposal worth €65m (£57m), however a transfer has been described as very difficult with the player not currently interested in an exit.

The Verdict: Would be huge

Ten Hag has limited midfield options at this moment in time due to injuries to Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay, whereas Casemiro is suspended.

Marcel Sabitzer was brought in on loan on deadline day, but Valverde could be a huge addition at Old Trafford as he appears to be at the peak of his powers with a career-high €100m Transfermarkt valuation.

He has been described as ‘outstanding’ by Ashley Cole, who believes the Real Madrid man is ‘on the verge of becoming the best’, so it is good to see that United are looking at a potential move, and who knows, it could gather pace, especially if the club are taken over by Qatari investors who can provide Ten Hag with immediate transfer funds.
