Manchester United: Finance expert hails off-field deal

Manchester United: Finance expert hails off-field deal -Manchester United News

Finance expert Dr Dan Plumley has hailed Manchester United’s fresh off-field partnership with Therabody, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Global partnership

United announced last week that they have extended their deal with Therabody ‘by becoming global partners in a multi-year agreement’.

The global wellness technology leader will continue to provide products and solutions for both the men’s and women’s teams as part of training and recovery programmes.

The California-based company will continue to market on Old Trafford match-days and through the club’s digital channels.

The Latest: Plumley’s comments

Plumley, who contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to FI regarding United’s new deal with Therabody, labelling it as ‘really smart’ and ‘clever’.

Where will United finish this season?

“It’s really smart.

“When it comes to maximising revenue, having that tiered approach allows for upgrades. You can see how the relationship works and then upgrade it – it’s working well.

“It’s smart because it de-risks the original investment for both parties.

“So, it makes sense from a business point of view and it’s quite a clever way of doing things.

“You can grow incrementally with current partners and it takes the pressure off trying to find new ones.”

The Verdict: Good to see

Off-field deals are important for any football club, with United no different after they brought in £232million in sponsorship and merchandising income in 2020/21.

Therefore, this new long-term deal with Therabody that has gone global appears to be a shrewd decision by United chiefs. Players will also get the benefits by having access to Therabody products, something that could help in the long run with rest and recovery now a vital part of elite-level sport.
