Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Manchester United have made an offer for a new goalkeeper target and appear to have moved on from Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp.

The Red Devils look set for an extremely busy end to the summer window and are preparing to raise their offer for key target Antony to €94m.

However, it isn’t just the Brazilian on the radar at Old Trafford, with Trapp thought to be a player of interest. Recent reports stated that United were keen on the German shot-stopper, but it looks as if they have now moved on.

The Latest: Plettenberg’s post

Plettenberg, reporting from Sky Germany, took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to provide an update on Trapp.

He said that United have ‘made an official offer to another goalkeeper in the last hours’, with Frankfurt now expecting Trapp to remain at the club.

That unnamed player could well be Martin Dubravka, with Sky Sports saying that United have held initial talks with Newcastle over a potential move.

The Verdict: Needed

Erik ten Hag only has 36-year-old Tom Heaton as cover for David de Gea, so bringing in a new second choice ‘keeper seems to make sense.

In truth, one has been needed since Dean Henderson joined Nottingham Forest on loan at the beginning of July, so it is concerning that United are leaving it this late in the window to bring one in.

Even though it won’t be Trapp, hopefully, United can bring in an experienced ‘keeper, potentially Dubravka following those talks, but time is ticking.
