Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has hit out at a number of Manchester United players and manager Erik ten Hag following Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Heavy defeat

The Red Devils’ long-awaited return to Premier League action didn’t go to plan on Sunday, with their four-match winning run coming to an end.

In truth, the Manchester derby was over before half time, with Pep Guardiola’s side racing into a four-goal lead at the break.

Anthony Martial improved the score line late on with two goals, however, a 6-3 defeat has left Agbonlahor fuming.

The Latest: Agbonlahor’s comments

Agbonlahor, who contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to FI about the Manchester derby.

He didn’t hold back and slammed Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Agbonlahor used the words ‘woeful’, ‘dreadful’ and ‘pathetic’ to describe some of the displays and said those players mentioned and Ten Hag ‘should get fined by the club’ for the ‘embarrassing’ performance.

“A leopard doesn’t change its spots.

“Some of these players are, for me, bottle jobs. They turned up when they had the home crowd on their side against Arsenal, against Liverpool.

“When it comes to away from home, it’s same old Man United. The players that Man United had, they should be doing a lot better.

“Nobody wanted the ball, they were giving it away, nobody showed composure, there were nervous passes from Rashford and McTominay. Fernandes was woeful and Eriksen was dreadful.

“Varane and Martinez were pathetic. Martinez looked like a little boy trying to mark Haaland. There are problems there.

“Everyone was getting carried away by Man United’s decent form. You don’t lose 6-3 in a derby, you don’t let two players score a hat-trick against you.

“It’s the most embarrassing result I’ve seen in recent years from Man United. It just shows that you are an easy touch.

“All those players and the manager should get fined by the club for embarrassing the club across the world, to be honest.

“Two players were laughing because they both got a hat-trick in the derby. If that doesn’t show how miles off it you are as a club then nothing will.”

The Verdict: Reaction needed

Ten Hag appeared to be turning things around following back-to-back defeats to start the season, with impressive victories over Arsenal and Liverpool at Old Trafford.

However, they were on the end of a rampant Manchester City side and conceded four goals in the first half for the second time this season.

A reaction will be needed, starting in the Europa League tomorrow and in the Premier League against Everton on Sunday, where hopefully, positive displays will leave pundits like Agbonlahor having nicer things to say.
