Manchester United: Gabby Agbonlahor ‘surprised’ at training ground drills

Manchester United: Gabby Agbonlahor ‘surprised’ at training ground drills -Manchester United News

Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has been left ‘surprised’ at what Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has introduced in training, as per Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Weak foot training

The 52-year-old has started to get a tune out of his squad after back-to-back defeats at the beginning of the campaign. The Red Devils have won their last four top-flight fixtures, which included impressive home wins over Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Dutchman appears to be working on every specific detail at Carrington, with reports stating that he has placed an emphasis on improving the weaker foot of “certain players” in training, one of whom is believed to be left-back Luke Shaw.

The Latest: Agbonlahor reacts

Agbonlahor, who contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to Football Insider regarding the news he’s heard from Carrington. The 35-year-old admitted that he was ‘surprised’ and labelled the news as ‘very odd’.

The former Aston Villa striker said:

“I’m really surprised. When I started at Aston Villa as a youngster I practised with my left foot every day because I wanted to be better on my weaker foot.

“That’s something I wouldn’t expect the players not to be doing. On shooting drills, you’d do your weak foot and strong foot, you wouldn’t just be laid off on your strong foot to shoot. The majority of the time you’d try your weaker foot.

“It’s very odd for me. What have managers been doing before Ten Hag got there?”

The Verdict: Good to see

Although Agbonlahor has been left shocked at the news, it is good to see how in-depth Ten Hag is willing to go on the training ground.

He has apparently seen a weakness in Shaw’s game when it comes to using his right foot and isn’t afraid to set up drills looking to improve players in that regard.

It doesn’t look as if the left-back is being singled out, and in the long run, these players may thank the United boss for his detailed approach to their individual requirements.
