Manchester United will only pursue Mohammed Kudus if their priority targets break down, according to Luke Edwards.

The Lowdown: Kudus interest

Kudus' performances for both Ajax this season and Ghana in the World Cup, have seen him become the latest top talent to emerge from the Amsterdam side.

After almost joining Everton in the summer before the Eredivisie champions blocked the move, he’s now found plenty of suitors in the Premier League, with a move to a big six side now a potential option.

TEAMtalk claimed last month that Liverpool have become one of the interested parties in the 22-year-old since the World Cup.

The Latest: United move?

United have now also joined the race for Kudus and could rival their North-West rivals for his signature but The Daily Telegraph’s Edwards told Transfer Gossip Daily that the Ghanian is far from a priority at Old Trafford.

(7:10) “I think Manchester United will have him at the moment as a backup option if I’m perfectly honest behind those two primary targets Bellingham and De Jong.

“But Kudus is really, really good, 22, fantastic age, Ajax have this wonderful tradition of nurturing really good talent so I think he will be on the move at some point, whether Ajax try and keep him for another year but I would expect Kudus to be in the Premier League, I would say in the next 18 months,” Edwards said.

The Verdict: Interesting alternative

Following two goals in Qatar despite the Black Star’s group-stage elimination and ten goals already for Ajax this season, Kudus has shown his class in front of goal.

The versatile attacker has been deployed across five different positions in his short career, with the most prevalent being centre-midfield.

However, in the Dutch capital this season he’s mainly featured as a striker or in an attacking midfield position owing to his influx of goals which was just six last season.

He’s a complete statistical beast with him in the top 1% for dribbles completed and pass completion and accuracy amongst forwards according to FBref.

Also in the top 3% for progressive passes and shots total show how much of a threat he’s been over the past year and why United see him as an intriguing option.
