Manchester United have tested the waters over a possible move for AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud.

The Lowdown: Striker hunt

Erik ten Hag is on the search for a new forward at Old Trafford this month after the club parted ways with Cristiano Ronaldo towards the end of 2022.

A number of attackers have been linked with moves to Manchester, such as Joao Felix, Marcus Thuram, Randal Kolo Muani and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. It seems as if Giroud is also on the Red Devils’ radar, with a transfer update emerging.

The Latest: Giroud interest

Foot Mercato shared a story in the last 48 hours, suggesting that United have taken information on the 36-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

However, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows from Milan ‘sources’, saying that an exit appears ‘impossible’ with the 299-goal forward in line to extend his stay in Italy.

The Verdict: Time already ticking

United have a busy second half to the season battling on four fronts, so they could really do with bringing in a new striker as soon as possible. The longer their search goes on, the greater the panic could become both inside and outside Old Trafford.

Failing to sign a striker would leave Ten Hag with Anthony Martial as the only senior centre-forward on the books, meaning that Marcus Rashford may have to come inside, but hopefully United will manage to sign one of their many striker targets, even if it isn’t Giroud.
