Manchester United are set to 'resume talks' with youngster Alejandro Garnacho regarding a new deal, according to an update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Garnacho a special talent

The 18-year-old has burst onto the scene at Old Trafford this season, registering two goals and assists apiece, including a last-gasp winner away to Fulham in the Premier League.

Garnacho looks like a special talent judging by his recent performances and he has been described as 'amazing' by former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

The Argentine's current deal expires in the summer of 2024, however, and the Red Devils are understandably keen to sort an extension for him.

The Latest: Talks over deal to 'resume'

Writing on Twitter, Romano provided an update on the situation, suggesting things are heading in a positive direction:

"Manchester United will resume talks to extend Alejandro Garnacho’s contract in the next weeks and months.

"Negotiations have been ongoing for months as Man Utd want Garnacho to be happy with new long term deal and improved salary."

The Verdict: Future United superstar?

Tying down Garnacho to a long-term deal has to be considered one of United's key pieces of business currently, considering what a huge prospect he is.

He possesses a fearlessness and healthy arrogance that the great young players do - Lisandro Martinez has said he has 'no ceiling' - and he already feels like he has become a key part of Erik ten Hag's squad.

To lose Garnacho now would be an almighty but it feels as though his future belongs at Old Trafford and confirmation of a new deal would be a massive boost.
