Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is 'on the radar' of Manchester United, according to a transfer update by journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Lowdown: Gakpo shines again in Qatar

The attacker made a flying start to the 2022 World Cup with a goal against Senegal on Monday, but he has ensured that that wasn't a one-off.

On Friday, Gakpo thundered home a brilliant strike to give Holland the lead in their clash with Ecuador, with the game eventually finishing in a 1-1 draw.

The PSV man has been a standout attacking player in the tournament so far - journalist Fabrizio Romano has called him 'special' - and he has been linked with a move to United numerous time, very nearly joining in the summer.

The Latest: United keen on signing

Writing on Twitter on Friday, Jacobs claimed that United are battling with Liverpool and Arsenal for the signing of Gakpo:

"Cody Gakpo has been directly involved in 34 goals in 28 games for club and country this season. He's scored 16 and assisted 18. He's firmly on the radar of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal."

The Verdict: Looks a special prospect

Gakpo really does look like a player with a massive future in the game and he is someone who could take United's attack up a gear, especially following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Incredibly, the 23-year-old has 21 goal involvements (12 assists and nine goals) in just 14 Eredivisie appearances this season, as well as scoring three times in the Europa League.

Capable of playing out wide and centrally, Gakpo could dovetail beautifully with the likes of Cristian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Antony and Marcus Rashford, and his towering 6ft3in frame means he is unlikely to be daunted by the physical side of the Premier League.
