Manchester United could battle Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the signing of Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries, according to a fresh transfer update.

The Lowdown: Dumfries impresses at World Cup

The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2022 World Cup with Holland, helping them reach the quarter-finals with some strong performances.

Dumfries registered two assists and scored once in Qatar, providing constant attacking quality in a right wing-back role, not to mention endless powerful running in both directions.

The Dutchman is currently at Inter Milan but it could be that a move to the Premier League is on the cards in the near future.

The Latest: United to battle Chelsea

According to journalist Marco Barzaghi on YouTube [via Sport Witness], European heavyweight trio United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all eyeing up a move for Dumfries:

"Dumfries had a star turn in the World Cup, with goals and assists. Given the prices that are circulating, 60 million (euros) could fit, but even 50 million could be good. A bidding war cannot be ruled out with Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

"(Bayern) could offer the Moroccan Mazraoui, but he costs and could fetch around 20 million. Tottenham is also on the player and could offer Emerson Royal."

The Verdict: Strong competition for Dalot

Dumfries could prove to be a really astute signing by United at around €50m (£44m).

Holding proven attacking quality - he ranks in the 98th percentile for xG+xA amongst full-backs - he would be a big upgrade on the likely outgoing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and provide serious competition for Diogo Dalot.

It is imperative that Ten Hag has at least two top players in every position moving forward and signing the Inter Milan star - dubbed 'world class' for his goal at the World Cup by journalist Lukas Weese - would solve that issue at right-back.

At 26, Dumfries is at prime age in his career, which shouldn't change for a number of years, and seven goals and ten assists in 65 appearances for Inter highlight his attacking threat.
