Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will reportedly be allowed to leave the club in January, with a return to Leicester City potentially on the cards.
The Lowdown: Maguire out of favour
The 29-year-old’s stock has fallen dramatically over the last couple of years, having produced a consistent run of unconvincing performances for United.
It now looks as though the club’s skipper could even be close to leaving Old Trafford, following a recent claim.
The Latest: Maguire could leave in January
Taking to Twitter, journalist Rudy Galetti claimed that the door is open for Maguire to depart United in January, with Leicester and other English clubs keen on signing the defender.
“#Maguire, as reported, could leave #MUFC soon: #ManUtd have communicated to the player the intention not to continue together.
“Some #EPL clubs are monitoring the situation: keep an eye on #LCFC and 2 other teams.”
The Verdict: Time to sell
With Ten Hag keen on adopting a high line, the England international is exposed too often and he simply isn’t the right fit for this United team.
That’s not to say that Maguire isn’t a good player – he has been lauded as ‘magnificent‘ by his manager – but a return to a club like Leicester, or someone of that ilk, could be on the cards moving forward.
Therefore, if the opportunity comes up to sell a player that the club are seemingly happy to let go, it seems like the right time to part ways.
