Journalist Samuel Luckhurst slammed Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes for one 'abysmal' moment in Sunday's 1-0 win over West Ham.

The Lowdown: United see off Hammers

Erik ten Hag's side hosted the Hammers in the Premier League as they sought to continue their impressive resurgence in recent months.

It may not have been a classic at Old Trafford but Marcus Rashford's bullet header in the first half proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Fernandes started the game and largely did well but that didn't stop him from frustrating one journalist who was taking in the action.

The Latest: Fernandes criticised by Luckhurst

Writing on Twitter, Luckhurst criticised the Portuguese midfielder for losing possession cheaply during the second half.

The reporter commented:

"That is abysmal from Fernandes. Not the first time today he has ignored an easy pass. And De Gea bails him out."

The Verdict: Sloppy area of his game

Fernandes is a superb footballer on his day and he has played a part in United's good form this season, but his looseness on the ball is a negative part of his game.

Against West Ham, he lost possession 11 times in total and was guilty of ceding the ball in dangerous areas when the Red Devils were trying to cling on to victory.

Nor is that a rare phenomenon - the 28-year-old loses the ball on average 15.3 times per match, the most of any United player so far this season.

Fernandes may boast star quality but, if he could improve this side of his game, he could be an even more formidable player for Ten Hag's side.
