Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could be allowed to leave the club in the summer transfer window, according to a new transfer update.

The Lowdown: McTominay down the pecking order

The Scot was a key player at one point but Erik ten Hag's arrival has changed that, with the midfielder finding himself pushed down the pecking order.

McTominay has been limited to just seven starts in the Premier League this season, having to accept that Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have come in as more important players.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at United in 2025 but it looks as though he could even depart this year.

The Latest: Summer exit possible

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are 'willing to listen to offers' for McTominay in the summer, with a £25million price tag placed on his shoulders.

Ten Hag needs to sell players in order to free up funds for new signings and the midfielder could be one of a 'host' of players put in the shop window.

The Verdict: Time to move on

McTominay is a good player who has often done a job for United in the middle of the park  - Jose Mourinho once called him 'special' - but this summer feels like a good time to move him on.

He is clearly not considered a key starter by Ten Hag and they need to be signing upgrades on him as squad players, too, in order to go up another level next season.

McTominay can still enjoy a strong career elsewhere in the Premier League, joining a lower-ranked club and starting every week for them - somewhere like West Ham could be ideal and he has been linked with them in the past.

Should the 36-time capped Scotland international stay put it certainly wouldn't be an issue, but this summer does feel like the most sensible moment to cash in on him, in terms of his age and contract situation.
