Manchester United: Red Devils in talks with Denzel Dumfries’ agent

Manchester United: Red Devils in talks with Denzel Dumfries’ agent - Manchester United News

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with the representatives of Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries.

The Lowdown: Two loans

The Red Devils have been quiet in the winter window when it comes to big-money signings. There have been players through the door at Old Trafford, though, with goalkeeper Jack Butland and striker Wout Weghorst both joining on loan until the end of the season.

Time is running out for United to make further additions, but it looks as if there has been contact with those close to Dumfries, called a ‘very exciting’ and ‘effective‘ full-back by members of the Italian media.

The Latest: Dumfries speculation

Sports Witness relayed an update from Calciomercato regarding Dumfries on Thursday. They claimed that the Netherlands international’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has travelled to England to talk with Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The report adds that Inter would want between €40m and €50m for the defender, and although a late January transfer hasn’t been ruled out entirely, a summer swoop looks more likely at this moment in time.

The Verdict: One to watch…

Erik ten Hag currently has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as right-back options at this moment in time, with the latter’s long-term future at Old Trafford still seemingly up in the air despite the fact he looks set to stay until the summer following recent speculation of a departure.

Should the Englishman move on at some point, Dumfries could be viewed as a shrewd replacement, especially as he is capable of playing in an advanced right midfield role if required.

Dumfries would also bring an attacking threat from right-back, as he has contributed to 56 goals from 229 appearances from that position compared to Wan-Bissaka’s 16 in 173 games. It could be a deal to watch in 2023, especially after the first contacts have already been held with the player’s agent.
