Manchester United could offer Inter Milan €30m plus Diogo Dalot for full-back Denzel Dumfries.

The Lowdown: Gakpo first in?

The Red Devils appear to be keen on multiple Netherlands players at the World Cup, such as Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong and Cody Gakpo.

Reports in recent weeks have even suggested that United have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with the latter. A further update then claimed that the club are increasingly confident of signing Gakpo in January instead of waiting until next summer, and are in regular contact with the 23-year-old's camp.

The Latest: Dumfries update

As well as Gakpo, an update has emerged on the future of Dumfries, with Sports Witness relaying news from journalist Ciro Venerato.

He claimed that United could come forward with an offer of €30m plus Dalot, although he hinted that it might not be accepted.

“As for Dumfries, Inzaghi considers him fundamental in the Scudetto comeback project this season.

“I don’t think United’s offer of 30 million plus Dalot can be accepted. I think the team will make evaluations in June, but if no important offers arrive, he will be confirmed for the rest of the season.”

The Verdict: Bizarre

Dalot impressed for Portugal in the last 16 of the World Cup against Switzerland and seems to be first choice under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Therefore, it does seem surprising that the club could be willing to use the player as part of a deal for Dumfries, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka appearing to be surplus to requirements.

What would be good is if the Inter Milan man, called a 'very exciting' full-back by members of the media, arrived to rival Dalot, so hopefully, a player-plus-cash offer fails to materialise.
