Manchester United have received a major boost in the race to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer, according to The Daily Express.

Football writer James Benson revealed Sancho has told Borussia Dortmund he wants to leave the club and return to England.

Last week, ESPN claimed that the Red Devils are the clear front-runners to sign the Dortmund star.

The Englishman has emerged as one of Europe's hottest talents after establishing himself as a key player at the Signal Iduna Park.

It has been reported that Old Trafford is his preferred destination, as Marcus Rashford is keen to reunite with his international teammate.

United had faced competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, but Frank Lampard has now turned his attention to Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz instead.

Despite the fact he only cost Dortmund a mere £8m in a move from Manchester City, Ed Woodward will have to part ways with at least £89m in order to prise Sancho away from the Yellow and Blacks.

The 20-year-old, who is the club's top scorer this season, has bagged 17 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga at the time of writing.

This news will no doubt delight Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the Norwegian made it clear Sancho is at the top of his shortlist after he missed out on signing the England international last year.

United have been interested in Sancho for a very long time, stemming all the way back to Jose Mourinho's infamous time in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Red Devils were in the middle of working on a squad overhaul before the nationwide lockdown was imposed due to the pandemic (ESPN).

It seems Solskjaer has remained deadfast as he is determined to get his man before the start of next season and he now looks set to beat all competition for his signature.
