Manchester United are ‘still interested’ in a move for PSV forward and Netherlands star Cody Gakpo, according to Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Gakpo’s comments

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Gakpo in the summer but ended up bolstering their attacking ranks with a big-money move for Antony instead.

Gakpo, who will be in action for the Netherlands at the World Cup later this month, has recently revealed that he spoke to Erik ten Hag over a potential move, stating it was a ‘shame’ he didn’t move to Old Trafford.

It looks as if a move could still be on the cards, though, with Jones making a claim on a possible transfer.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, transfer insider Jones spoke about Gakpo and Manchester United. He said that the Red Devils are ‘still interested’ in his services and spoke about how he may not be viewed as a centre-forward at Old Trafford.

"If you have got [Marcus] Rashford on the left, competing with [Jadon] Sancho.

"If you've got Antony on the right, you've also got [Anthony] Elanga on the right and at the moment you've [Anthony] Martial and [Cristiano] Ronaldo as the two main striker options and the talk of a third, I don't exactly think that's where Gakpo fits in, but there's no doubt United are still interested in him."

The Verdict: Get it done

Gakpo, hailed as a 'sensational player' by Football Oranje editor and Dutch football expert Michael Bell, has been in unbelievable form this season, contributing to 29 goals in just 22 games.

He has mainly played as a left-winger, so could provide fierce competition to Marcus Rashford, who may also be required to feature in a central role, should Cristiano Ronaldo leave in January as has been reported.

Ten Hag would surely welcome the potential arrival of Gakpo following his free-scoring form, so he could be a player to watch closely in Qatar over the coming weeks.
