Manchester United watched Benfica defender Antonio Silva in action against Paris Saint-Germain last week, according to The Mirror.
The Lowdown: Silva profiled
Silva is just 18 years of age and has progressed through Benfica’s academy system. The youngster has made nine first-team appearances for the Portuguese side, all of which have come during the current campaign.
Primarily a centre-back, Silva reportedly has a £13m release clause in his contract, and it looks as if United are keen on bringing him to Old Trafford.
The Latest: United trip
The Mirror shared a transfer story on Saturday morning regarding United and Silva. They claimed that the Red Devils hold a ‘big interest’ in the defender and made the 3,450-mile round trip to watch Silva in action against PSG.
The report adds that United are looking to sign a ‘quality young defender’ for Erik ten Hag next summer and believe Silva fits the bill.

The Verdict: Solid display
Silva was coming up against three world-class attackers in Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, playing the entirety of the 1-1 draw.
As per SofaScore, Silva ended with a match rating of 7/10, so United officials may have left Portugal impressed.
The centre-back won two of his three duels, made three clearances, two tackles and one interception. He also completed six long balls and created a big chance, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if United continued to monitor the player heading into 2023.
