Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy has praised Manchester United's swift deadline-day pursuit of Bayern Munich's Marcel Sabitzer.

The Lowdown: Sabitzer flying to Manchester

BBC Sport recently claimed that the midfielder was flying over to Manchester to complete a loan deal from the Bundesliga outfit to Erik ten Hag's side - with the Austrian arriving at Carrington on Tuesday evening.

The Premier League club decided to move for Sabitzer due to the long-term injury to Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay's short-term blow, according to the same report.

Sabitzer featured 15 times in the German Bundesliga this season with Bayern, producing a goal and an assist in that time. But after just seven starts, he has taken a chance on ending the campaign on a high in the Premier League.

The Latest: Reddy praises decision

Reddy claimed that the decision to land Sabitzer was a very intelligent move from the Red Devils on her Twitter account, praising many of his attributes, including his versatile nature.

She tweeted: "On very short notice in a tight bind given injuries, Marcel Sabitzer on loan looks a clever solution for Man Utd. Thrives in the free eight role, also offers versatility. Good presser, diligent defensively, quick ball progression, strong shooter; a threat from distance/deadballs."

The Verdict: A solid fit

We believe that Man United have managed to secure a pretty good midfield option for the short term in Sabitzer.

He's been praised by many in the past, including former Austria coach Franco Foda, who described him as a player who 'gives everything for 90 minutes'.

With his hard work and versatility being highlighted as some of his strongest attributes on the pitch, we believe that the Red Devils could well end up embracing Sabitzer as a future cult hero.

We see this as a great opportunity for him to earn a permanent move to Manchester United or another club in the summer.

There have been uncertainties over his future with Bayern that go as far back as last year, while his lack of game time certainly won't have helped matters.

Sabitzer is certainly someone who has talent, having shown that when he was at RB Leipzig, and we believe that if he's given the opportunities under Ten Hag, he can once again show just what he can offer in midfield for a top side, having scored just twice for Bayern - some 50 times fewer than his goal haul in Leipzig.
