Manchester United could use defender Victor Lindelof in a swap deal for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries this summer, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Dumfries interest

It looks set to be a busy few months off the pitch at Old Trafford, with noise of a takeover increasing in recent days. Meanwhile, United are already making transfer plans and are on the search for a new forward and midfielder ahead of Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge.

There could be more, though, with Ten Hag a ‘huge fan’ of Dumfries and reports suggesting that the Red Devils could go back in for the defender after considering a move in January.

A bid in the region of £40-50million could be enough to prise Dumfries away from the Serie A giants due to their financial troubles, but it looks as if United are considering a swap deal.

The Latest: Transfer update

Football Insider provided a transfer update regarding United and Inter in the last 48 hours. They said that United could 'unexpectedly' include Lindelof in a move to bring Dumfries to Manchester in what they say may prove to be a sensational swap deal.

Inter are after a new centre-back this summer due to Milan Skriniar’s imminent exit, with this being described as a “real possibility” and a “deal to watch” for Man United fans.

The Verdict: Ten Hag not happy?

Lindelof may not be a regular under Ten Hag, with the 28-year-old starting just five Premier League games this season. However, the Sweden international has turned out on 21 occasions in all competitions this season and is highly rated by the United boss.

Reports earlier this month from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed that Ten Hag will push the Glazers to keep Lindelof this summer following January transfer window interest from Atletico Madrid and Inter.

Therefore, sacrificing the defender to sign Dumfries may not sit well with Ten Hag, meaning the Glazers could upset the boss by pushing this through.

Harry Maguire has also been linked with a summer exit, so if both players depart, Ten Hag could be left with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane as first-choice options alongside youngster Teden Mengi, with Phil Jones out of contract at the end of the season.

This could be one to keep an eye on over the coming months, so it’ll be interesting to see if Ten Hag makes his stance clear in the boardroom ahead of a potential exit for Lindelof.
