Man United are in 'pole position' to seal the signing of Netherlands international star Cody Gakpo, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Gakpo shines in Qatar...

Scoring three goals across the tournament and playing a leading role in his country's run to the World Cup quarter-finals, PSV Eindhoven's ace emerged as one of Qatar's breakout stars.

The Dutchman has been attracting Premier League interest as a result with United and manager Erik ten Hag heavily linked in particular.

Reports have suggested that the Red Devils are set to go all out for Gakpo's signing in January with ten Hag personally leading the charge to get it done.

The Latest: United in 'pole position'...

As per 90min and journalist Scott Saunders, United are currently favourites and in 'pole position' as things stand as they lead the chase heading into next month.

It's claimed in the piece that they have also already begun working on a deal to bring Gakpo to Old Trafford.

Writing on Twitter, reporter Saunders explained:

"#MUFC in pole position for Cody Gakpo.

"Wheels put in motion to move in January. PSV looking at club record fee to sell, likely in region of £45m."

The Verdict: Get it done...

Called a 'magnificent' player by journalist Josh Bunting, Gakpo's numbers in the Eredivisie certainly reflect an attacker of real quality.

As per WhoScored, the 23-year-old has dazzled with nine goals and 12 assists in just 14 league appearances this season - making £45 million seem like a fairly reasonable fee.

Gakpo wouldn't just bring attacking threat to Manchester, but his age indicates that he could even get better and better under an experienced manager like ten Hag.
