Manchester United: Fabrizio Romano reveals Diogo Dalot contract talks ‘soon’

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are now set to hold talks ‘soon’ over extending the contract of Diogo Dalot.
The Lowdown: Out of contract
Dalot’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer, meaning that he can leave as a free agent, or sign for another club for a cut-price in the January transfer window.
The right-back has come off the back of an impressive FIFA World Cup with Portugal, where he ranked as their second-best performer as he made three appearances on their way to reaching the quarter-finals (WhoScored).
The Latest: Talks ‘soon’
Taking to Twitter, Romano has revealed that talks will take place ‘soon’ over extending Dalot’s contract, and he adds that fellow right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be allowed to leave in January:
“Manchester United are trying to find a solution for Wan-Bissaka in order to let him leave. Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace remain interested.
“Main priority on right-back situation remains to extend Dalot’s contract. Talks will take place soon.”
The Verdict: Deserved
Dalot is certainly deserving of a new contract, given his recent performances for Portugal and the start to the season that he made with United.
The 23-year-old has played in every game that he has been available so far under Erik ten Hag (Transfermarkt), showing just how much his new manager trusts him.
On a mere £25,000-per-week, he is one of the lowest-paid players in the Red Devils squad, and is deserved of a big salary increase.
In contrast, Wan-Bissaka, who earns £90,ooo-per-week, has only played four minutes of senior football so far this term, and is in need of a move away.
The Englishman has unfortunately failed to live up to his huge £50m price tag from 2019, and getting him off of the wage bill would help fund Dalot’s new deal.
