# Manchester United predicted XI: Two academy grads in, one out

**Manchester United fell to their first defeat of the 2019-20 campaign as Crystal Palace registered their first-ever victory over the Red Devils in the Premier League last week.**

And, with[injuries to Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces another potentially tricky fixture when he takes his side to St. Mary’s.

United have picked up just [four points from the nine available](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) and with Liverpool and Manchester City already beginning to create a gap, Solskjaer and co. cannot afford to fall much further behind.

So, how will the Norwegian line-up in Southampton?

Anthony Martial will be heavily missed against Southampton with the Frenchman netting [two goals in the first three games](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php). However, with Solskjaer heavily invested in youth, something Scott McTominay has [recently touched on](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49376679), academy graduate Mason Greenwood could come in. The 17-year-old has an astonishing record of [42 goals in 45 appearances in United’s youth ranks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-greenwood/leistungsdaten/spieler/532826).

[Daniel James](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/302313/Show/Daniel-James) and [Marcus Rashford](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/Show/Marcus-Rashford) are relatively undroppable right now as the two have pitched in with 66.8% of Premier League goals so far, registering two each out of the six United have scored.

It is a different story in the centre, however, where Jesse Lingard has not pitched in with a single goal or assist in 2019 ([as per WhoScored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/109000/History/Jesse-Lingard)), which should force in fellow academy graduate Andreas Pereira, who has already [assisted in his 75 minutes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/243254/History/Andreas-Pereira) so far this season.

In midfield, despite Paul Pogba losing the ball which led to Palace’s winner and [receiving a 5/10 for his performance](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/manchester-united-ratings-crystal-palace-16810987), the Frenchman should remain for his creativity – last season, [no Manchester United player](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/32/Archive/England-Manchester-United?stageId=16368) provided more Premier League assists.

Furthermore, with Nemanja Matic not playing a second thus far, McTominay should keep his place, despite only [receiving a four for his showing against the Eagles](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/manchester-united-ratings-crystal-palace-16810987).

At the back, the injury to Shaw against Palace should make room for Ashley Young with [Diogo Dalot still sidelined,](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php) whilst Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will most likely continue to build their partnership in the centre.
