# Manchester United: Red Devils make Marcel Sabitzer offer

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) have made an offer to Bayern Munich for midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, according to Sky Sports.**

### The Lowdown: Eriksen injury

Erik ten Hag has been hit with an injury blow regarding Christian Eriksen, with the midfielder set to be out for around [three months](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11696415/Man-United-dealt-injury-blow-Christian-Eriksen-ruled-THREE-MONTHS-ankle-injury.html) with an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury on the weekend against Reading in the FA Cup, in what was his [31st](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633) appearance of the season in all competitions.

It looks as if United are exploring the market for a new signing as a result of the update on Eriksen, with Sabitzer seemingly a player of interest.

### The Latest: Sky Sports update

Sky Sports Germany reporter [Uli Koehler](https://twitter.com/Sky_Uli?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) said ‘I just got a call’ live on the channel’s [deadline day coverage (13:24)](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre), revealing that Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is talking to Chelsea and Manchester United, with both clubs making a late offer for Sabitzer.

He labelled the midfielder as a ‘very good player’ and that Bayern are ready to ‘give him away’ on loan or sell him.

### The Verdict: Smart move?

Both [Eriksen](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633) and [Sabitzer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcel-sabitzer/leistungsdaten/spieler/106987) have made the majority of their appearances this season as a central midfielder, with the Austria international turning out [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcel-sabitzer/leistungsdaten/spieler/106987) times for Bayern.

The 28-year-old has been on par with [Eriksen](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69344/Show/Christian-Eriksen) in terms of performances, averaging a slightly better league match rating during the current campaign, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/92051/Show/Marcel-Sabitzer), while his numbers actually surpass the Red Devils star in most major metrics, according to [FBRef](https://fbref.com/en/players/e280527c/Marcel-Sabitzer).

Sabitzer can also [turn out](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcel-sabitzer/profil/spieler/106987) further forward in an advanced midfield role if required and even out wide, so if the terms are right, he could prove to be a shrewd replacement for Eriksen, with this one to watch in the final hours of the window.
