# Manchester United: Red Devils rejected by wonderkid who shares agent with Bruno Fernandes

**Manchester United are keen to add to their growing pool of young talent, as the Red Devils are linked to [Jadon Sancho](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/euro-transfer-gossip-man-utd-jadon-sancho-agreement-liverpool-torres) and [Thiago Almada](https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/05/manchester-united-already-negotiations-sign-thiago-almada-velez-sarsfield-12811384/).**

Now, [reports](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11688125/man-utd-10m-transfer-sporting-lisbon-nuno-mendes/) have emerged that the club are interested in Sporting Libson teenager Nuno Mendes.

Ed Woodward is ready to spend [£10m](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11688125/man-utd-10m-transfer-sporting-lisbon-nuno-mendes/) on the defender, who has one year left on his current contract. However, according to [A Bola](https://abola.pt/), as per [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog-transfer-talk/story/4114827/live-transfer-talk-man-united-must-pay-151m-buyout-clause-for-barcelonas-ansu-fati), Mendes has reportedly rejected United, as he is set to sign a new deal with Sporting.

The [highly-rated 19-year-old](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11688125/man-utd-10m-transfer-sporting-lisbon-nuno-mendes/), has attracted attention from [Nani](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11688125/man-utd-10m-transfer-sporting-lisbon-nuno-mendes/), who gave a glowing review to the club’s scouts.

While little is known about the youngster, as it is difficult to find any credible stats on him, he has made [one senior appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nuno-mendes/profil/spieler/616341) for the Green and Whites so far.

The left-back, who shares an agent with [Bruno Fernandes](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog-transfer-talk/story/4114827/live-transfer-talk-man-united-must-pay-151m-buyout-clause-for-barcelonas-ansu-fati), can also play as [a centre-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nuno-mendes/profil/spieler/616341) and his versatility is surely an added bonus.

[\[freshpress-poll id=”305233″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22305233%22])

Big things are clearly expected of him, as the Portuguese newspaper claims the contract contains a release clause of €45m, which roughly equates to £40m.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to have missed out on Mendes for the time being, the board will be able to work out [his valuation](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog-transfer-talk/story/4114827/live-transfer-talk-man-united-must-pay-151m-buyout-clause-for-barcelonas-ansu-fati) now, which could pave the way for them to sign him further down the line.

Moreover, it saves them the embarrassment of taking a gamble on a teen who is still relatively unknown, as he could turn out to be a total flop like [Federico Macheda](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/federico-macheda/profil/spieler/61887).

United have a history of plundering the Lions in the past, stemming all the way back to Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at the Theatre of Dreams in [2003](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/alletransfers/verein/985).

The two clubs clearly have a [strong relationship](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/2266525/united-ink-sporting-deal) and this may help to smooth proceedings in the future.
