# Manchester United: Samuel Luckhurst says Red Devils still open to signing right-back

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are still open to replacing Aaron Wan-Bissaka despite agreeing to loan out Ethan Laird, according to [Samuel Luckhurst](https://twitter.com/samuelluckhurst/status/1553687792521297920) of [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-united-transfer-news-laird-24631928).**

### The lowdown

Laird is [poised to join Watford](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-united-transfer-news-laird-24631928), who were relegated back to the Championship at the end of last season, on a temporary deal. The 20-year-old has given his assent to the move, which should go through imminently.

New United manager Erik ten Hag has been shaking up the full-back ranks at Old Trafford since he arrived at the club. He has signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord to compete with Luke Shaw, shelling out [an initial £12.7m](https://theathletic.com/3403321/2022/07/07/malacia-manchester-united-transfer/).

He has also [installed Diogo Dalot](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-united-transfer-news-laird-24631928) as the first-choice right-back ahead of Wan-Bissaka, who [started 20 Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-wan-bissaka/leistungsdaten/spieler/477758/plus/0?saison=2021) last season.

### The latest

Sharing the latest, Luckhurst [tweeted](https://twitter.com/samuelluckhurst/status/1553687792521297920): “Ethan Laird set to join Watford on loan. Likely move doesn’t secure Wan-Bissaka’s future, with #mufc open to signing a right-back if they can shift him”.

In the [attached article](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-united-transfer-news-laird-24631928), the reporter adds that United have rebuffed any approaches for Dalot but are ‘eager’ to offload Wan-Bissaka.

### The verdict

You can understand why Ten Hag isn’t too keen on Wan-Bissaka, whose contribution going forwards may be regarded as insufficient after he [failed to register a single assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-wan-bissaka/leistungsdaten/spieler/477758/plus/0?saison=2021) in any competition last season.

Fortunately, he should still retain some value as a 24-year-old with [two years left on his contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-wan-bissaka/leistungsdaten/spieler/477758/plus/0?saison=2021) – indeed, [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-wan-bissaka/leistungsdaten/spieler/477758/plus/0?saison=2021) rate him at a healthy £22.5m.

Who could United target if they do manage to offload the former Crystal Palace right-back?

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/ten-hag-ready-make-offer-bring-player-manchester-united-dotes-big-sale-key/)) have named Denzel Dumfries as a player who Erik ten Hag likes. Inter Milan are said to value the Dutchman at [€40m](https://sportwitness.co.uk/ten-hag-ready-make-offer-bring-player-manchester-united-dotes-big-sale-key/), which equates to £33.4m.
