# Manchester United: Secret Moussa Dembele talks leaked

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) have been in secret talks over a possible move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.**

### The Lowdown: Ronaldo to leave?

Erik ten Hag has a tough job on his hands at Old Trafford, and that could be made even harder if the club were to lose star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

Recent [reports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12644525/cristiano-ronaldo-manchester-united-legend-asks-to-leave-club-amid-concerns-over-trophies-and-transfers) have suggested that the United legend has asked to leave this summer, with the 37-year-old having his concerns that the club won’t be able to compete for the biggest trophies.

Should Ronaldo leave, then you’d expect that a new striker would be a priority, and it appears as if that man could well be Dembele.

### The Latest: Dembele update

[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/secret-manchester-united-relaunch-contacts-22-goal-striker-perfect-time-buy/) relayed an update from French outlet [Media Foot](https://mediafootmarseille.fr/info-manchester-united-revient-a-la-charge-pour-moussa-dembele-ol/.html) regarding Dembele and United on Monday.

They claimed that, ‘in secret’, the Red Devils have been ‘moving to relaunch contacts’ for the French forward.

### The Verdict: Why not?

Dembele has scored [137](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/229004/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) goals during his senior club career to date and was dubbed [‘unstoppable’](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtics-unstoppable-odsonne-edouard-can-20636876) by Barry Ferguson during his time at Celtic.

He has just come off his best league season in front of goal with [21](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/229004/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) Ligue 1 strikes in [30](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/229004/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) games. Still just 25 years of age, you’d like to think that the France international still has plenty of years left at the highest level, so a move for him could be a shrewd one by United.

The striker is also into his last [12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/profil/spieler/229004) of his Lyon contract, which could mean that he may be available for a fee in or around his £18m [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/profil/spieler/229004) valuation, making a potential move certainly worth a punt.
