# Manchester United: Sergio Romero’s wages as well as club demands blocking any possible transfer

**Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has been linked with a [departure](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sergio-romero-villa-manchester-united-18873081) all summer, and the latest update highlights why the club are struggling to offload the [33 year-old](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-romero/profil/spieler/30690).**

According to [James Ducker](https://twitter.com/TelegraphDucker) of the Telegraph, and tweeted out by [utdreport,](https://twitter.com/utdreport/status/1308832557417541634?s=20) United’s demands for a substantial fee for Romero on top of his £90,000-a-week wages have seen a number of parties lose interest in the player.

The Argentina international has been a great backup goalkeeper for the Red Devils and has made his fair share of appearances as David De Gea’s understudy. He has played in 61 games for United, conceding only 27 goals and keeping 39 clean sheets, per [Transfermarkt.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-romero/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/30690)

However, with Dean Henderson back and the Englishman [starting ahead](https://www.sofascore.com/luton-town-manchester-united/Ksxb) of the Argentinian in the Carabao Cup vs Luton Town, Romero has dropped further down the pecking order, so is not needed desperately at United.

He would probably like to move on to play some more football, whilst United clearly want some money, but it seems like if they want to let him go, they might have to lower their valuation of the player, and a lot of fans are not happy that the club are struggling to sell him – one was stunned that their second string ‘keeper was on such a high wage.
