# Manchester United: Red Devils close to Thomas Strakosha move

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are ‘closing in’ on signing free agent Thomas Strakosha, according to reporter [Geoff Peters](https://twitter.com/mrgeoffpeters/status/1545740393018494978).**

### The Lowdown: Strakosha profiled

The 27-year-old recently left Lazio after his contract expired at the end of June. The Albania international made a whopping [208](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-strakosha/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/222209) appearances for the Serie A club, keeping [62](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-strakosha/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/222209) clean sheets and winning [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-strakosha/erfolge/spieler/222209) trophies.

Former Biancocelesti goalkeeper Silvio Proto described Strakosha as [‘explosive’](https://thelaziali.com/2018/11/14/proto-strakosha-stronger-llsn/) and a stopper who [‘has everything’](https://thelaziali.com/2018/11/14/proto-strakosha-stronger-llsn/), and it looks as if he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

### The Latest: Strakosha move close

[Peters](https://twitter.com/mrgeoffpeters/status/1545740393018494978) took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to provide an update on Strakosha.

He claimed that United are ‘closing in on a deal’ for the goalkeeper following talks with his representatives, with the Albanian set to fill the void left by Dean Henderson, who joined Nottingham Forest on loan.

### The Verdict: Positive signs

Strakosha has also been linked with a number of other [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) clubs, including [Chelsea](https://twitter.com/mrgeoffpeters/status/1545740574745153536), so a move to Old Trafford appears to be a positive one.

Although he will likely play second fiddle to David de Gea, the Albnian will bring plenty of knowledge and [experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-strakosha/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/222209) at the highest level and should be an adequate backup option to the Spaniard.

United recently made [Tyrell Malacia](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62010793) their first summer signing and also appear to be close to landing Christian Eriksen on a [three-year deal](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/jul/04/christian-eriksen-agrees-to-join-manchester-united), so this update on Strakosha is just another sign that the rebuild under Erik ten Hag is finally starting to fall into place, with multiple moves in the pipeline.
