Manchester United: Fans delighted after Real Madrid backtrack on Donny van de Beek - Manchester United Transfer Rumours

Manchester United are favourites to sign Donny van de Beek this summer after Real Madrid backtracked on their bid to sign the Ajax star, according to reports from the Netherlands.

The Red Devils have already been busy ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League season by signing Odion Ighalo. The Nigerian has earned a contract extension as he has impressed the club he supported as a boy, scoring four goals in eight appearances so far.

Van de Beek had reportedly reached an agreement with Real earlier this season (Daily Mail). However, the Spanish giants are funding a £500m renovation of the Bernabeu and the chances of him joining Madrid are now zero.

De Telegraaf chief football writer Valentijn Driessen told Veronica Inside (as relayed by @utdreport) “I now hear that Real Madrid is backtracking. The chance that he will go to Real Madrid is nil.

“The transfer fee was fixed. He was allowed to go for €50million. In fact, everything was agreed. It was only about the medical examination.”

Last week, ESPN revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had considered a move for the Dutchman back in Januar before the board signed Bruno Fernandes instead.

After breaking into the first team, it is fair to say Van de Beek has become a man in demand, as he featured in 23 games in the Eredivisie this season, scoring eight goals, supplying five assists, taking 1.9 shots per game, averaging 1.8 key passes and completing one dribble on average (via WhoScored).

Moreover, the 23-year-old has received a higher WhoScored rating than Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish, who has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail claimed that the Red Devils could prise him away from the Johan Cruyff Arena with an offer of £36m, and he would be a cheaper option than Grealish, as Villa value their key player at £80m.

Naturally, lots of United fans gushed over the “great” transfer update on social media, with one fan urging the board to “get him signed up ASAP” and another adding that he would be a “bargain”.
