Manchester United are looking to complete a move for Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, but are reluctant to pay a high fee.

According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), the midfielder is valued at about €30million (£26.7m) but the Spanish outlet claims the Red Devils don't want to pay a 'large amount' for his services.

Instead, United are planning to try and convince Madrid into working out a 'formula' in order to get Rodriguez for a lower amount. This is because his contract is due to run out in the next 12 months.

The 28-year-old has played just seven times in La Liga this season, tallying one goal and one assist (via Transfermarkt). However, this doesn't portray his clinical nature in front of goal and natural chance-creating abilities.

Rodriguez returned to Madrid last summer after a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich. His time in Germany came off the back of a much more attractive La Liga season, in which he finished with eight goals and six assists. Across the two seasons in the Bundesliga, Rodriguez tallied 15 goals and 20 assists across all competitions (also Transfermarkt).

If the Colombian was to join the Man United ranks, he could prove to be a vital asset to their midfield and a strong partner to in-form Bruno Fernandes.

According to Mundo, Everton and Atletico Madrid are also interested in Rodriguez, so Solskjaer must act fast if he is serious about bringing him to Old Trafford.

The power combination of the Colombia international and recent signing Fernandes could really create a force to be reckoned with next season. As it stands, United's Portuguese midfielder has created five goalscoring opportunities in five games, which sets him up for a very fruitful looking 2020/21 season.

With the added clinical nature of Rodriguez, who let us not forget scored six goals and provided two assists at the 2014 World Cup, the Reds could really be on their way to re-establishing themselves in the Premier League and potentially dominating Europe once more.
