Manchester United fans are currently going through an emotional rollercoaster during the transfer window as rumours and speculation continues around the possible transfer of Jadon Sancho.
The latest update seems to suggest that the club are not fully certain on whether the winger will come to Old Trafford, but it looks like the deal could go down to the wire.
According to Sky Sports News’ James Cooper, the Red Devils are actively looking for alternatives to Sancho in the transfer window in case they cannot complete a deal for the 20-year-old.
They want to pay a ‘realistic fee’ for the Borussia Dortmund player and the two clubs have been unable to agree on a price so far.
The Englishman has made 99 appearances for the Bundesliga side, registering 77 goal contributions as he has scored 34 times and supplied 43 assists, per Transfermarkt.
There is no doubting his quality, and his performances have clearly not gone unnoticed as he has become a regular feature in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with two goals in 13 caps. However, what makes the transfer rather more complicated is the amount that Dortmund want for him, as they have set a price tag of £108m on the 20-year-old.
If United want to look at some cheaper alternatives, there are definitely some good options available – one in particular would be Gareth Bale, who is reportedly available for only £22m as Real Madrid desperately seek to offload him.
The Welshman has made 499 appearances in his career, with 166 goals and 138 assists in England and Spain, per Transfermarkt, and he has also won 17 trophies throughout his career, which includes four Champions League titles and La Liga.
Bale certainly has an impressive track record and could slot seamlessly into thet side but, with him being 31 years of age, he might not be around for the long-term.
Sancho definitely appears to be the number one choice and United still should do all they can to try and get him, but there are some good alternatives out there if needed and the Red Devils are right to be looking at other options rather than putting all of their eggs in the Sancho basket.
