Amid numerous transfer rumours surrounding potential incomings at Manchester United, it looks like they could be close to completing a deal for a defender.
According to Metro, Barcelona defender Marc Jurado is travelling to England to complete his move to the Red Devils. The 16-year-old has been in the La Masia academy since the age of seven but it looks like he is keen to move to England after weeks of negotiations which has seen him fail to agree a new contract at the Spanish club.
Despite the player not being a marquee signing, it is a good sign that the club are not just building for the present but also the future.
It looks like history has repeated itself somewhat as United signed a young centre-back called Gerard Pique back in 2004 from Barcelona. Even though he only managed 23 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Spaniard moved back to Barcelona and became regarded as one of the best defenders in the world as he managed to win the World Cup, as well as 29 trophies in Spain at club level throughout his career.
Hopefully right-back prospect Jurado can follow in the footsteps of Pique and become one of the best defenders in the world – but at Old Trafford rather than the Catalan club from whom he is set to be signed.
United fans, could Jurado become Pique 2.0? Comment below with your views!
