Manchester United have no intention of finishing their transfer business in the current window as they continue to be linked to new players, with the latest transfer rumour seeing them targeting a La Liga-based midfielder.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils have set their sights on Serbian central midfielder Uros Racic, who currently plays for Valencia.
He has a £92m release clause in his current contract but, even though United haven’t made an offer yet, they believe that recent events may see a bid of around £28m being sufficient to tempt the Spanish side into letting him go.
Racic has made 117 appearances throughout his career, with past clubs including Red Star Belgrade and CD Tenerife, per Transfermarkt, but he has only made two senior appearances at Valencia after clearly impressing for their B team, for whom he scored one goal in 15 appearances.
At the age of 22, he is likely seen as a player with a lot of potential, and this is highlighted by the fact he managed 13 appearances for the Serbian under-21 side.
It could be a good move for United as another defensive midfielder might be needed sooner rather than later at the club, with Nemanja Matic now in his 30s. This leaves them with just Scott McTominay as a natural defensive midfielder if Matic were to leave sooner rather than later, so Racic could definitely be seen as a like-for-like replacement.
The only question would be whether the signing would be too rushed, and maybe the Red Devils should wait until they see how he performs for a season at Valencia before they make any big-money moves for a player who still has plenty to prove.
